Head Coach of the Russian National Synchronized Swimming Team Tatiana Pokrovskaya believes that athletes should perform at international competitions, and statements in favor of Russian participation in the Olympic Games are the first step in this direction.
On Monday, the President of the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC), Suzanne Lyons, said the agency supports the participation of Russians and Belarusians in the 2024 Olympics in Paris in a neutral status and without a national flag.
– The very change of statements in favor of our participation in the Olympics is a step forward and will add motivation. It’s a shame, of course, that they say you have to play without a flag, it’s annoying. But athletes have to perform – we’re talking about the Olympics. And the fact that even the US NOC is coming out in favor of our performance… We have to be prepared, but we can’t know how this situation will be resolved. But today’s statement by the Americans and the position expressed in Congress by the President of FINA, I take it positively. It’s good, we continue to work,” said Pokrovskaya.
