Russian Artistic Gymnastics Federation President Vasily Titov appreciated the US Olympic Committee’s statement that Russian athletes should be allowed to compete in the Olympics.
Previously, the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC) supported the idea of allowing Russian and Belarusian athletes to participate in the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, but in a neutral status.
Such a gesture is to be welcomed. Everyone is well aware that a number of sports at the Olympics will significantly collapse without the participation of Russian athletes. But, on the other hand, it is an initiative of only one of the national committees. We need the IOC to turn this into a lifting of the ban on our participation. If this happens, then there will be something to discuss. But it’s good that American Olympians don’t mix sports with politics. In general, this is a positive sign,” Titov told .
On February 28, the Executive Committee of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) recommended that international federations prevent Russians and Belarusians from participating in competitions due to events in Ukraine. Many federations have followed these recommendations. On December 9, most participants at the Olympic summit agreed on the need to keep sanctions against Russian and Belarusian sports in place.
