The Colombian cyclist will sue the “Astana” team

Colombian cyclist Miguel Angel Lopez published a statement on social networks on behalf of lawyers, from which it appears that the athlete will defend his rights in court after the Astana Qazaqstan team terminated the contract with him.

Earlier, Astana announced that it had decided to end its relationship with Lopez in connection with data obtained by the cycling team regarding his possible connection to scandalous doctor Marcos Mainar, who allegedly supplied illegal drugs. Media reported that Lopez was temporarily suspended from racing in connection with questioning in a doping case.

– It was publicly announced the decision of the Astana team to terminate the contract that bound the cyclist Miguel Angel Lopez with it. The contract was extended in November 2022 for the 2023 season. Mr. Miguel Ángel López considers this decision totally unreasonable. There are no new facts which would justify this decision and which were unknown in November 2022 to the Astana team. Rejecting any clue that would damage his name and his honor as a professional cyclist, Mr. Lopez recalls that never in his entire career has he tested positive for any doping substance, and that he has not even not been investigated by the competent authorities.

Mr. Miguel Angel López said he would take all legal action to help protect his rights after he faced a seemingly unfair dismissal without cause, the cyclist said in a statement.
