European diving champion, member of the commission of the International Swimming Federation (FINA) Maria Polyakova told she was thrilled at the chance to even compete in the Olympics, which leaves FINA to the Russians.
FINA President Hussein Al-Mussalam announced at the congress the conditions under which Russians will be able to compete under the auspices of the Asian Confederation. Currently, Russian athletes, in the context of the situation in Ukraine, are suspended from participating in competitions under the auspices of FINA.
– I am happy that the federation does not exclude for us the possibility of participating in the Olympic Games. Certainly, if they want to include us in competitions under the auspices of Asia, it means that Europe has also supported this and is against us. But if they are allowed to participate in the Games, it doesn’t matter, under the auspices of which confederation, Polyakova told .

– They just asked me to shoot a video, I shot it in two takes – Nikita Shleikher filmed me. I wasn’t 100% sure that my video would be included as well – they said they just had to send it.

– FINA reported that the name was changed because it was incomprehensible to many, some couldn’t even decipher the abbreviation. How is it going ?
“I knew it was in French and it meant Federation Aquatique Internationale. I cannot speak French literally.
– And when you were asked your opinion as a member of the commission?
I replied that I was not opposed to the name change.
Because it makes more sense?
– Yes. The new name, I’m sure, will take root over time. At first, such changes are unusual.
