Athletistic/ Others. On Saturday, December 17, the election of the head of the Russian Chess Federation will take place. One of the candidates is a participant of the match for the world chess crown in 2016, Sergey Karyakin. Russian grandmaster Daniil Dubov spoke about it.

– Karjakin is a precedent of its kind. Almost the only person in chess history who has been disqualified for his political views. It’s not a question of whether I agree with him or not. Objectively, he is now persona non grata and a red flag for the international chess community. His election would be a slap in the face to public opinion. If elected, everything will be done to prevent the Russian team from playing, and Russian chess players in general.

It is clear that Karjakin has his own perception of this situation. He thinks he is right. Perhaps he considers it necessary for chess to develop mainly within the country. This is a possible position, I simply do not support it, – quotes the words of Dubov “Championship”.
