The ISU has confirmed that Shcherbakova is claiming the union award in the ‘Most Valuable Skater’ category

Russian figure skater Anna Shcherbakova was among the nominees for the ISU Skating Awards, according to to place International Skating Union (ISU).

The 2022 Olympic champion will compete for the Most Valuable Skater award. Nathan Chen from the United States, Yuma Kagiyama from Japan, Riku Miura/Ryuichi Kihara from Japan, Gabriella Papadakis/Guillaume Sizeron from France, Kaori Sakamoto from Japan, Sui Wenjing/Han Cong from China and Sema Uno from Japan are also in the running for award it.

Shcherbakova will be the only Russian woman at the ceremony, which will take place on February 5, 2023.

2022 Junior World Championship winner Ilya Malinin, 18, did not enter the “Season Opener” nomination. He was born in the United States to Russian figure skaters Tatyana Malinina and Roman Skornyakov. Malinin also won the Skate America Grand Prix with five free skate quad jumps, including a four-turn Axel, for a rental score of 194.29. Thus, Malinin is the first figure skater in history to land a quadruple axel in competition.

At the Beijing Games, 18-year-old Shcherbakova won gold in singles.
