Olympic diving champion and RT journalist Elena Vaitsekhovskaya spoke about her attitude to the fact that the figure skater Anna Shcherbakova became the only Russian woman to be among the nominees for the ISU Skating Awards.
– Among the ISU nominees for the best of the best at the end of the year, with the exception of Anya Shcherbakova, there is not a single nominee, although eight people are represented by coaches and choreographers, and there are up to 20 nominees in the “best costume” and “best program” categories.
What does it say? First, about the fact that Russian candidates for something are now excluded from all votes and polls, and you have to be incredibly persuasive to have a chance of getting anywhere. But something else is also evident. For example, that in terms of performance/costumes, we’re really not ahead of the rest in figure skating.
I think so only because I look at the lists and wonder: which of our skaters, coaches and choreographers could really be included in this list? Well, apart from Tamara Moskvina? And I understand that I have no candidates, those who could be put in the top three without a doubt, one way or another… Vaitsekhovskaya wrote on her Telegram channel .
The award ceremony will take place on February 5, 2023. At the Beijing Olympics, 18-year-old Shcherbakova won gold in individual skating.
