Oleg Matytsin announced the return of Pyotr Ivanov as President of the All-Russian Athletics Federation

Minister of Sports of the Russian Federation Oleg Matytsin announced on Sunday the return of Piotr Ivanov to the post of president of the All-Russian Athletics Federation, reports the ARAF press service.

Petr Ivanov was elected head of ARAF in November 2020, but in February 2021 he temporarily left the post and Irina Privalova became acting president of the organization. Since December 17, 2022, the restrictions imposed by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) on the awarding of leadership positions in international sports organizations by Russian officials have been officially lifted, as confirmed by a letter from the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).

– On December 17, all imposed sanctions ended. From there, WADA officially notified all signatories. The same applies to the restrictions imposed on officials who held positions in public organizations, in particular Petr Valeryevich Ivanov. I am very happy that today he is again in the status of President of the VFLA. All government procedures are complete, there are no restrictions. The Sports Ministry will provide maximum assistance to the ARAF President and Presidium, Matytsin said.

ARAF has been stripped of its World Athletics membership since 2015 due to a massive doping scandal. From then on, Russian athletes could participate in international competitions only after obtaining neutral status. On March 1, 2022, World Athletics banned Russian and Belarusian athletes from participating in international competitions.
