Vladimir Salnikov: “I think the decision on the performance in Asia will be taken in January-February”

All-Russian Swimming Federation President Vladimir Salnikov said the decision on Russian participation in competitions in Asia could be made as early as January or February 2023.

Earlier, Salnikov told that Russian water sports have a chance to move to the Asian federation, but the question is in what status. An appeal was also sent to the Asian confederation on the possibility of Russian participation in tournaments under its auspices.

– We have the prospect of participating in competitions in Asia. I think the final decision will be made in January-February. It is quite possible, and the prospect of performance at the Olympics. There should be a statement from the President of the International Olympic Committee, Thomas Bach, his recommendations to the international federations, but there are already prerequisites. It’s an optimistic scenario, which may allow us to perform at the World Championships, but I don’t want to get ahead of events,” Salnikov said on “Match! Arena”.

In February, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) recommended that sports federations prevent Russians from participating in international competitions due to the situation in Ukraine. Many federations have followed these recommendations.
