Russia’s honored figure skating coach Alexei Gorshkov called it a vicious practice when judges advise individual pairs out of competition.
– I know that in every team of dance judges, there are always people who, outside of the competitions, privately advise certain duets. Is this practice good or bad?
– Of course it’s mean. But it’s not just that. Previously, all skaters, including juniors, went to one or another competition at the start of the season, and the marks obtained were something of a guideline for the judges at all subsequent starts. Now everyone is in an enclosed space. After Alla Shekhovtsova retired, all control disappeared. None of the six Russian Grand Prix tournaments were judged in dance, so that raised no questions, Gorshkov told RT.
