Russia’s honored figure skating coach Alexei Gorshkov said that this season the rhythm dance started to experience serious speed problems due to the current rules.
– In dance support, the partner has three difficult positions: on one leg, boat and seed. I asked once why not offer something else, not do five or six positions. In response, I heard: in this case, it will be difficult for technical specialists to follow everything.
If we talk about the current rules, this year, for example, the dancers were given a chore track actually across the rink and with a mandatory stop. And immediately the dynamic disappeared, which is of paramount importance in dances. The rhythm dance is not too fast anyway, because you have to fulfill a lot of not very simple requirements, and this season it just “lifted”. It’s not very noticeable on video recordings, but it’s very striking live,” Gorshkov told RT.
Among Gorshkov’s students are dance duets who have repeatedly risen to the podium of world junior and adult championships: Albena Denkova – Maxim Stavisky, Oksana Domnina – Maxim Shabalin, Olga Sharutenko – Dmitry Naumkin. Now promising couples Irina Khavronina – Dario Chirizano and Elizaveta Pasechnik – Maxim Nekrasov are coaches.
