Coach Alexei Gorshkov admitted that one of his skaters could change citizenship

Russia’s honored figure skating coach Alexei Gorshkov said he was ready for his athletes to be able to change their nationality.

— Like the reason why Annabelle [Морозов] with David [Нарижным] separated, the reluctance of the partner to fly before the Russian championship in the United States to Nikolai Morozov was called. Many, I know, have wondered: what’s the point of going to America for two weeks?

– It’s a double-edged sword. If Kolya came to Moscow for these two weeks, it would be an ideal option that would allow him to really work effectively on the programs. But flying to America from Russia is a completely different story. Five days are lost only on flights. So I’m not ready to answer which would be better.

– Now they say a lot that Davis / Smolkin, most likely, will skate for the USA, and Annabelle can go and find a partner in France and, accordingly, play for this country. Do you admit that some of your athletes may also want to leave?

– Sure. Especially now, transitions are greatly simplified. If you have a passport, you can get permission to change sports citizenship in two months. Obviously it’s not usual to talk about it, but as a coach I just have to keep all the possible options in my head.

It’s just that now, it seems to me, we have to think about keeping the skaters as active and charged as possible for work, and not about anything else,” Gorshkov told RT.

The Annabel Morozov – David Narizhny couple lasted only a few months, from February to the beginning of December 2022. The duo won the Russian Grand Prix in Moscow and Kazan.
