President of Russian Ski Racing Federation (FLGR) Elena Vyalbe noted that Russian skiers should be ready to return to international competitions.
By decision of Russian President Vladimir Putin, 2022 and 2023 have been declared cross-years of Russian-Chinese cooperation in the field of physical culture and sports. On Thursday, Moscow hosted a Moscow-Beijing video bridge devoted to sports cooperation between Russia and China in 2022. Previously, the third Russian-Chinese Youth Winter Games were held in China.
– The second time I was in China, and I left with the most delicious feelings. An incredible place for me, a magnificent ski slope. The level of competition was very high, but due to covid restrictions some Chinese athletes were unable to fully train. There were many Russian-Chinese flags in the city, which signifies the importance of this cooperation for the host country.
For 4 years we have been working closely with China, our coaches have worked with their team, the service has prepared their skis. Unfortunately, the Chinese athlete was disqualified during the Games, but right after the Olympics he managed to win the World Cup stage, and I think part of our work is also the result. We know that sooner or later we will perform at international competitions, and we have to be ready for that,” Vyalbe said during the video deck.
Russian skiers do not participate in international tournaments under the auspices of the International Ski Federation (FIS) due to the situation in Ukraine.
