Russian figure skating coach Inna Goncharenko summed up the men’s performance in the short program at the Russian Championship in Krasnoyarsk.
St. Petersburg figure skater Petr Gumennik showed the best result in the short program (104.47 points). The top three were closed by two other Petersburgers – Evgeny Semenenko (99.15) and Andrey Mozalev (98.70). Muscovite Mark Kondratyuk, who returned to action after a back injury, earned 77.50 points for his performance and took 12th place on protocol.
– Our boys have improved their level in general. It was nice to watch them. I really liked Zhenya Semenenko. It had a location both in terms of the emotional component and in terms of the elements. It is also worth noting Peter Gumennik, who directly turned it on. The goose has always been an interesting sportsman. Previously, it had a slight decline, which is mainly associated with growth. He just grew up really fast. But now he begins to deal with it gradually. The athlete has a lot of potential.
In general, a lot can be noted. Despite some mistakes, I liked Yablokov and Kovalev. Almost forgot Mozalev! He generally issued a life rental today! Very brilliant rolled, in one breath. I hadn’t seen him ride like that for a long time. It is kind of a shame Mark Kondratyuk . I just knew he had an injury and was trying to recover in a very short time. Mark is not in his best shape. But the very fact that he found the moral strength to speak within himself commands respect. The most important will now be in the short program. Whoever survives in terms of functionality will win.
Maybe Mark is not fighting for victory in the Russian Championship due to his health condition, but he is fighting for the opportunity to be in the national team, to speak to the public. It is also an important experience. If something goes wrong, it’s easier to withdraw from competition, but competing is always difficult. He is a very strong athlete, he made the right decision and we have to support him in this,” Goncharenko told Metaratings.ru.
Single skaters will compete with free programs on Friday.
