General Director of the Russian Figure Skating Federation (FFKKR) Alexander Kogan said that foreign colleagues are interested in the Russian show jumping championship, suggesting that this type of competition could be included in the program of the Olympics.
The Russian Show Jumping Championship was held in early December in St. Petersburg. In the individual men’s tournament, Grigory Fedorov became the best among women – Kamila Valieva. From December 22 to 25, Krasnoyarsk will host the Russian Figure Skating Championship.
— Krasnoyarsk always has a special atmosphere for athletes, coaches, judges. I am sure that the Russian Championship will take place at a high level of organization. We know there are almost no tickets for Saturday. On other days there is also a lot of interest in the tournament.
At the start of this season, Russian athletes were unreasonably and discriminatoryly suspended from international competitions. One of the main objectives of the FFKKR was therefore to create a fully-fledged competition calendar. Therefore, we formed six stages of the Russian Grand Prix, offered several new competitions.
The show jumping championship was a great success. There have been some comments about his organization, but we will fix everything. This tournament format is in demand. We received many feedbacks from foreign colleagues who asked us: “Why can’t this be another Olympic medal?”
The Russian Championship will be followed by the Grand Prix Final and the Show Program Championship. We will try to do everything. Athletes were selected for the Russian championship based on the results of six stages of the Grand Prix. All qualified athletes went through two stages. The exception is Adelia Petrosyan, who missed a stage due to injury. But she still got points. The total number of participants is 153 athletes. Representatives from 36 regions of the country participated in the stages of the Grand Prix. We will continue this practice, perhaps reformatting, and reduce the number of competitions between sports couples and dances.
For the first time in 12 years, Alexander Gorshkov will not be able to participate in the Russian Championship. But all these common ideas that we had, we will put them into practice.
We have a large prize fund, there is no budget money here – 2.5 million rubles for gold, 1.5 million for second place, 1 million for third. In this way, we tried to create motivation in the athletes so that they did not feel that they had not received something due to the lack of international competitions. I’m sure by December 25 we’ll see the best we have in the country. In the current difficult times, one of FFKKR’s priorities is to maintain relations with sponsors and partners, Kogan told reporters.
