The World Athletics Association will continue to issue neutral statuses to Russian athletes for their participation in international competitions, said a statement from the All-Russian Athletics Federation (VFLA).
– In response to ARAF’s request for neutrality for 2023, World Athletics responded that the process of obtaining neutral statuses will continue until the WA Board decides otherwise. Athletes who are Neutral for 2022 may continue to compete under the terms and conditions set out in the WA Board Decision dated March 1, 2022, until further notice from WA.
Thus, neutral status is extended to athletes who received it for 2022. Those wishing to obtain ANA status must complete all paperwork in the same manner as in 2022, the statement said.
ARAF recalls that 50 athletes from the expanded list will need to receive written approval from ARAF for each international departure.
ARAF has been banned from World Athletics since 2015 due to a huge doping scandal. From then on, Russian athletes could participate in international competitions only after obtaining neutral status. In March 2022, World Athletics banned Russian and Belarusian athletes from participating in international competitions.
