Figure skater Kamila Valieva after winning the silver medal at the Russian Championship in Krasnoyarsk, she said that she no longer saw the need to hide her face under the hood after the skates.
The athlete’s performance echoed the trials of the 2022 Olympics in Beijing, where she pulled her hood over her head as she passed reporters in the mixed zone. At the end of the performances this season, Valieva also hid her face under the hood.
Valieva has 247.32 points in total programs at the Russian Championship. Sophia Akatieva (249.74) won, Elizaveta Tuktamysheva (241.72) was third.
– It was more exciting in the short program. I enjoyed free skating, I skated for the public, I got two sheepskin coats, like in 2021. I’m happy, this is the third Russian championship for me. I want to congratulate Sonya and Lisa, we are amazing. It’s an interesting season, we show good skating, good jumps.
I don’t think you need to wear a balaclava anymore. You don’t have to hide your face. A good change, I guess,” Valieva said.
The figure skater also noted that she wasn’t worried before performing in a free skate.
– My first Russian championship, where I didn’t worry about the free program. I tried to enjoy being here, to draw energy from the audience. I want to thank them, the best support from them. Thanks to the coaches who believed in me and didn’t really dwell on the error of the short, but laughed it off. We will continue to work,” she added.
