In the top five – rowing world champion Lyudmila Luzan, boxer Oleksandr Usyk and jumper Andriy Protsenko
Silver medalist at the 2022 Winter Olympics Alexander Abramenko recognized the best athlete of Ukraine in the outgoing year according to the Association of Sports Journalists of Ukraine.
In the voting of sports journalists, the freestyler took eight first places and by 12 points beat the European champion and World Championship medalist Yaroslav Maguchy. The jumper, according to the regulations, was recognized as the best athlete of the year in Ukraine.
The list of the best athletes of the year looks like this:
1. Alexander Abramenko – 98 points (8 first places, one second)
2. Yaroslav Maguchy – 86 points (1 first place, 4 second, 3 third)
3. Lyudmila Luzan – 79 (1st place, 3rd place)
4. Oleksandr Usyk – 73 (2 first, 2 second, 2 third)
5. Andrey Protsenko – 60 (1 second, 1 third)
6. Alexey Novikov – 46 (1 second, 2 third)
7. Sisters Alekseev – 43 (two thirds)

In 2021, Tokyo Olympic champion Jean Beleniuk became the best athlete. Mikhail Romanchuk and Lyudmila Luzan rounded out the top three athletes.
