The Norwegian finished the tournament with 10 points out of 13
Norwegian grandmaster Magnus Carlsen won for the fourth time world rapid chess championship (in rapid).
The tournament, which takes place in Kazakhstan, the Norwegian finished with ten points out of 13 possible. Carlsen drew four times, winning eight games. The Norwegian is 0.5 points ahead of Vincent Keimer from Germany and Fabiano Caruana from the USA.
Previously, Carlsen refused to defend the title of world champion in classical chess, saying that he was not motivated. The winner of the Candidates Tournament, Yang Nepomniachtchi, and Ding Liren, who took second place in this tournament, will compete for the vacant title in 2023.
The World Rapid Chess Championship will continue with blitz competitions, which will be held on December 29 and 30. The Frenchman Maxime Vachier-Lagrave holds the title of champion in this sport.
