Gumennik said he got injured regularly when learning quads

Figure skater Pierre Gumennik in an interview with he talked about how he was constantly accompanied by injuries while studying quadruple jumps.

Gumennik took second place at the Russian Championship in Krasnoyarsk. The first was Evgeny Semenenko (295.07). Gumennik scored a similar number of points, but took second place, as he received a lower mark for the free program: 190.60 points compared to 195.92 points for Evgeny.

— After bronze at the 2020 YJWCH, it felt like your progress had slowed. Some have the desire to quit everything when something is not working. Have you experienced such a moment?

– No, I didn’t have that. At that time, I began to learn complex quadruples – the same lutz. I started skating a program with a lutz. At first, everything was going wrong. And he got hurt because of it. Nevertheless, a lot of strength is attached to such a jump, the back constantly hurts. In general, studying complex elements of ultra-si always comes with a cost in the form of injuries. Stable jumps cannot be obtained immediately. You have to adjust the technique, understand it. Race while competing.

If I now fall from the lutz on one side, then I immediately understand what to correct, what to watch out for with every jump. When I was only teaching everything, I didn’t know it, I made them unstable and hurt myself.

– At the same time, in the current season, Alexander Zhulin admired how easily you make quadruples with such growth. Do you yourself feel like you’re cracking them like nuts now?

– There are such moments. Depends on the shape. Sometimes you don’t seem to expect to reach the top, but you come and do it all with ease. In the process of training, you gain courage and continue to gain confidence.

Since 2017, Goumennik has been training with Veronika Daineko at the Tamara Moskvina figure skating sports club.
