The head of the so-called Donetsk People’s Republic, Denis Pushilin, announced plans to create his own Shakhtar football club.
According to him, the new club will be considered a “real” Shakhtar, and the Ukrainian Shakhtar is no longer related to Donetsk.
“That Miner – and he is now not a Miner, but Shakhtar – has already changed his residence permit. In that form, he is the club of one of the oligarchs Akhmetov. That is, he was either Lvov, or Kyiv. Now they are driven out everywhere, driven out, I don’t know what kind of registration he has. Well, that club has nothing to do with Donetsk,” Pushilin said.
“Who to play, I think, we will find. I’ll tell you that there are already certain initiatives to create a real miner. There is a place for a real miner to play, there are already proposals for sponsors.”
“I think that there will be those who want to play with him from other regions of the Russian Federation.”
The miner left Donetsk in 2014, after the beginning of the invasion of Russian troops into the territory of Donbass. Since then, the Pitmen have played home matches in Lviv, Kharkiv and Kyiv.
In 2022, the Russians launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine, which continues for the 93rd day.
