Now all Ukrainian clubs are united
Shakhtar Football Director Dario Srna hopes that the new draw UPL will take place in Ukraine. The Croat also spoke about the future Roberto De Zerbi in the Donetsk club.
“We need to look for a compromise so that Shakhtar will represent Ukraine in the Champions League at the highest level. And everyone helped Ukraine. Today is a small-big victory, because everyone wants to play the championship. We show everyone that we are alive and fighting for the country and football. God grant that the championship will be held in our country, this means that the war is ending. And we will all be happy to play: we are all together now, we are one. But it will be a little different on the pitch,” Srna said in Sport Arena TV interview.
“De Dzerby? Roberto is also waiting for a decision about the championship: what will happen and how it will be. This is a man who has qualified for the Champions League twice in eight months, won the Super Cup. Let’s see what happens to Roberto.”
“Am I the next coach of Shakhtar? And who says it? It is not true. One day it may happen, but today it is not true. Now there are many serious coaches and stronger than me.”
The UPL leadership will decide on the final format, host country and calendar for the next season after consultations with the Ukrainian authorities and military administrations.
UPL clubs are ready to start a new championship before the end of the war. Estimated start date for the new season is mid-August.
The 2021/22 season in Ukraine ended ahead of schedule due to a full-scale Russian invasion of the country. Shakhtar took first place in the standings and will play in the group stage of the Champions League.
