“Let’s hope 2023 brings people together regardless of their race, nationality or passport color.” Tutberidze posted a photo with Davis and Smolkin

Honored coach of Russia in figure skating Eteri Tutberidze posted on social media happy new year and expressed the hope that it will bring unity to all, regardless of race, nationality or citizenship.

Tutberidze attached a photo to the post with daughter Diana Davis and ice dancing partner Gleb Smolkin.

– Good year! I wish everyone less hatred in the soul. Hatred is destructive. More love and respect for people and life. Love destroys artificially created boundaries.

I really hope next year will unite people regardless of race, nationality or passport color. All health, peace and love.

PS We have one planet for everyone, so let’s take care of it, – wrote Tutberidze.

Previously, Davis and Smolkin had been announced for the Russian Grand Prix stages in Moscow and Perm, but the athletes had not taken part in the competition. On December 1, 2022, Smolkin explained the skipping tournaments saying that they have trained in the United States all their lives and it is currently difficult to get in and out of the country. He clarified that in February 2022 he applied for a green card, but this issue has not yet been resolved.

In the Tutberidze group, Olympic champions Anna Shcherbakova, Kamila Valieva, winners of the Games in sports duet Evgenia Tarasova and Vladimir Morozov are engaged. Davis and Smolkin are silver medalists of the 2022 Russian Championship, participants of the 2022 Olympics in Beijing.

Russian skaters have been suspended from participating in tournaments under the auspices of the International Skating Union (ISU) due to the situation in Ukraine.
