Irina went to pro-Ukrainian rallies in the Russian-occupied city
Arbitrator Irina Petrova told about how she was kept in prison in the occupied Nova Kakhovka.
After the beginning of the Russian occupation of the city, Petrova went out to pro-Ukrainian rallies. In early May, a group of unknown persons forcibly took her to the police station.
On May 14, it became known that Petrova had returned home. Subsequently, the woman was evacuated from Novaya Kakhovka to Kyiv.
“I am claustrophobic, for me to sit in a confined space is a very big stress. Secondly, they scared me that they could give me from 3-15 days to 10 years or even more, ”Petrova admitted.
“We refused to judge their football matches, and secondly, I defended the position of our country, I was and am for Ukraine. On May 9, I went out in a yellow-blue jersey with a flag. Probably, without football, I don’t have enough adrenaline, I wanted to show myself somehow. ”
“It was very scary because you leave the house and you don’t understand what can happen. You delete all SMS and photos because you are afraid that someone will come to you and look at some information. But I’m the kind of person that doesn’t delete anything. What I had since the beginning of the war is what I have left. Maybe it was because they found something on me.”
“Now there are probably only a few patriots in Novaya Kakhovka, but they are silent, because they know how this could end. I am very worried about my city. It’s calm there now, they don’t bomb or shoot, but it’s not clear what is happening. You have to be afraid, stay at home and not go out. And if you go out, then without a phone or after deleting all SMS and social networks before that. Because they might be waiting for you somewhere. Now there are a lot of collaborators who have gone over to their side.”
“I hope only for the best, I believe in our strength, victory and the Armed Forces of Ukraine. It may not be so fast, it may be in a month, two, three, four, but I know that all this will be Ukraine, because no one will leave us.”
The full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine continues for 93 days. Nova Kakhovka has been under occupation since the first days of the active phase of the war.
