Shakhtar CEO speaks about the fate of the new UPL season
CEO Miner Sergei Palkin shared his thoughts on the fate of the next UPL draw. The functionary does not believe that legionnaires will come to play in Ukraine.
“We are all for the championship to be in Ukraine. But this issue needs to be approached scrupulously and in detail: is it technically possible or not, ”Palkin said in Sport Arena TV interview.
“And also look in terms of what we should help. Every time the players take the field, it should bring some benefit to the country. It is hard to believe that legionnaires will come to Ukraine. I don’t believe this story.”
The UPL leadership will decide on the final format, host country and calendar for the next season after consultations with the Ukrainian authorities and military administrations.
It was reported that UPL clubs are ready to start a new championship before the end of the war. Estimated start date for the new season is mid-August.
The 2021/22 season in Ukraine ended ahead of schedule due to a full-scale Russian invasion of the country. Shakhtar took first place in the standings.
