Russian coach Olga Tishina accused of abusing young Italian gymnasts – media

The technical director of the International Academy of Rhythmic Gymnastics in Desio, Italy, and Italian coach Emanuela Maccarani and her Russian assistant Olga Tishina will face a sports tribunal for abusing young athletes, reports ANSA.

On Wednesday, the national gymnastics federation indicted the coaches. McCarani and Hush are accused of using “training methods that do not correspond to the correct attitude and professionalism”. The prosecution said these methods subjected the athletes to “psychological pressure”, which caused “nutritional and psychological disorders in some gymnasts”.

The Brescia public prosecutor’s office is also investigating after a mother of two sisters who have already retired from sport filed a complaint over alleged psychological abuse of girls by coaches in relation to their weight and appearance.

Two former athletes Italy national team, Nina Corradini and Anna Basta said last year they faced “humiliation and pressure” at the academy because of their weight.

Olga Tishina represents a sports family: her mother Natalya and her older sister Tatyana Sergaeva worked as coaches, and her niece Dariya Sergaeva played in the Russian rhythmic gymnastics team in individual competitions. Olga Tishina works and lives in Italy.
