Choreographer Elizaveta Navislavskaya, who works as a ballet teacher in the team of Alexei Mishin, in an interview with told how the figure skater’s new short program was created Eugenie Semenenko.
This season, Semenenko’s short program was staged under Albinoni’s Adagio. At the Russian Championship in Krasnoyarsk, the figure skater won gold.
– I would like to discuss the plot of the program “Adagio” by Evgeny Semenenko. He clearly portrays a strong man who is fighting for something.
– Initially, the idea was “Citizens of Calais” (sculpture by Auguste Rodin, dedicated to one of the episodes of the Hundred Years War – approx. “”). Zhenya read about it, tried to soak it up, but some kind of bright emotional reinforcement was needed. So that it is not someone else’s story, but an understandable image close to the performer.
We were looking for parallels directly with life and realized: after all, Zhenya combines training and studies at a medical university, is in an endless internal struggle. Being a top skater, getting to grips with such a tough job and still dealing with injuries…it’s heartbreaking from the inside. He fights to be himself. Everyone says it’s unrealistic to combine multiple difficult areas, and Zhenya proves that it’s possible. That is, in the program he talks about himself,” Navislavskaya told .
– A strong final gesture, when Evgeny sharply raises his hand, does this mean victory?
We found two endings. If Zhenya has fulfilled all the intended content, then he makes such a gesture – victorious. And if something didn’t work out, he’s left with another pose. I’m proud that Zhenya always uses the first option in the final – because she does everything (smiles).
