“It’s a pity that Trusova became the second in the Olympics. Even men rarely jump five quads in a free program ”- former coach of skaters

Figure skating coach Alexander Volkov shared his thoughts on an alumnus’ success with Alexandra Trousova and her work with new coach Svetlana Sokolovskaya.

Trusova in 2013 moved with her family from her native Ryazan to Moscow, where she began to work with Volkov. From 2016 to 2020, the athlete trained with Eteri Tutberidze, in May 2020 she joined the Evgeni Plushenko Figure Skating Academy, and a year later she returned to the Tutberidze group at the Sambo school -70. Since October 2022, Trusova has been training at CSKA with Svetlana Sokolovskaya.

In February 2022, Trusova became the Beijing Olympics silver medalist in women’s singles.

– How do you find the powerful achievement of a former student at the Olympics – five quads in one program?

“Oh, I was very attached to her and to our whole school. Journalists even came, filmed a video in favor of Sasha, but for some reason did not show it. I’m sorry that Sasha became the second. The rental was awesome. She’s a very smart girl – she made a leap in the history of figure skating! Even men rarely jump five quads in the free skate.

Except Nathan Chen.

– Well, yes, but it’s still rare – let’s be honest. And Sasha is a girl, and she’s great!

– And how do you like Alexandra from the new coach Svetlana Sokolovskaya?

— Sveta is a brilliant coach and a professional in her field. Sasha continues to show results with her. It’s hard for her now. Probably affects the post-Olympic season. Especially for a top athlete who has concentrated all his strength on the main start. But I’m sure we’ll see all of Sasha’s “quads” in the future.

– What do you think motivates Sasha to keep fighting now? Still, she made a name for herself, now there is a break with new international records, and the process of forming a figure is obvious. Special character and perpetual motion machine?

Sasha is a fan of her sport and show jumping. She can’t stop yet, she wants new records. A Svetlana Vladimirovna [Соколовская] understands Sasha’s soul and supports her, shows patience at the right time. I think they have a wonderful tandem.

Also, Sasha has a young man nearby. Mark is a great guy, they’re even happier together and motivate each other. I’m sure Sasha will always jump. I am very happy with its success.
