Trusova in 2013 moved with her family from her native Ryazan to Moscow, where she began to work with Alexander Volkov. From 2016 to 2020, she trained in Eteri Tutberidze’s group. In May 2020, she joined the Evgeni Plushenko Figure Skating Academy, and a year later she returned to the Tutberidze group in Sambo-70. – You have known Alexandra Trusova for a very long time. What was it like before gaining worldwide fame?
– Sasha was also stubborn in terms of jumping. I could do them indefinitely – at least two workouts in a row. But not very fond of spinning and sliding.
But this often happens with figure skaters who are specially suited for super complex elements. Sasha is such an athlete and she does very well.
Is it true that she is fearless and ready to try any exercise?
– Yes, and therefore it was extremely interesting to work with Sasha. You tell her to do something, to try something new, and she does. Go and try to correct the error the first time. You can point it in the right direction, constantly improve it, like playdough – you mold it and strengthen it. And of course, I will note her diligence: I even had to slow Sasha down to protect her from injury.
– You said that you did not want to take the future record holder to Khrustalny, you did not see the potential. Why?
– It somehow happened that they came with Yegor Rukhin, and the director immediately said: “He’s a boy – well, let’s take it! This girl doesn’t really stand out. We’ll take a look!”
Sasha then really jumped only doubles – not quite stable and not the most beautiful in the world. But at the decisive moment, Viktor Kudryavtsev helped. He advised my group, often came to visit for training. I drew his attention to Sasha, and he also saw the prospects. As a result, Viktor Nikolayevich spoke with the management of the rink.
