Figure skating coach Alexander Volkov told about the nature of the Russian-Azerbaijani single skater Ekaterina Ryabova with whom he worked for several years.
Ryabova from 2016 to 2020 trained under the guidance of Volkov at the Angela Plushenko ice rink, in 2018 she changed her sports citizenship (to Azerbaijani). Ryabova is a silver medalist at the Denis Ten Memorial (2021), participant in the Olympic Games (2022), World and European Championships (2019-2022).
– Ekaterina Ryabova, with whom you worked a lot, ended her career. How would you rate this athlete?
– She has a very strong character and crazy stubbornness – in a good way. Katya is used to doing this and nothing else. It took a lot of energy to convince her to do something new. But when she succeeded, she was grateful and admitted: “the coach is right”.
I am very proud of Katya: having the flag of an unfigured country on her back, she slowly rose and, starting from the Junior Grand Prix, she placed in the top six at the European Championship. Then she skated superbly at the World Championships and the Olympic Games.
She is very intelligent! Incredibly happy for this girl to have taken part in such prestigious competitions and felt their atmosphere.
