Lasitskene about the performance at the “Christmas Departures”: “I did not have the strength for 1.96 meters, but in no way reproached myself”

Olympic champion Maria Lasitskene said she was happy with her performance at the Christmas Starts tournament in Yekaterinburg, despite an unsuccessful attempt to gain a height of 1.96 meters.

Lasitskene placed second in the mixed event of the tournament with a score of 1.94 meters, only behind Danila Lysenko (2.30). To compare the results of men and women, a handicap of 0.34 meters was set.

– According to my feelings, my training, I understand – I did what I had to, I tried and I succeeded. 1 meter 94 cm is a good result for the start of the season, I’m happy with myself, the way I worked, fought.

On the third attempt I let out a lot of force, then my whole body gently told me it hurt, but there was no other way. You have to work with it, get used to it, understand your body. At 1.96 I didn’t have enough strength, but I didn’t blame myself. I understood that it was necessary to work, to make the installations. I believe that I have understood.

The main thing is that we have started the season. There are a lot of training sessions ahead, there are departures,” Lasitskene said in an interview with the All-Russian Athletics Federation (ARAF) press service.

Lyssenko said he could not take the height of 2.36 meters due to technical errors.

– I jumped rather well, there were errors, moments to correct. An excellent result for a first start to the season. Why 2.36? Because it is a new record in competition. I was left alone and didn’t want to waste my energy on anything less. I can’t say it didn’t work, but it was hard on the feelings. Technical errors have occurred. I feel confident, there is excitement, but I try not to think about it. I’m not thinking about anything for the winter season, I’ll show everything I’m capable of,” Lyssenko said.
