“Figure skating is dying because athletes can’t make money” – Rigini

Russian and Italian figure skater and current coach at the Florent Amodio Academy in France Ivan Righini talked about the need to sponsor figure skating.

– Figure skating is a non-commercial sport. We can’t show anything. Skates – only in your social networks you need to seal logos in official training. Why? It’s not true! Therefore, sponsors do not get into figure skating. Some footballers who play in the second division of the Bundesliga get sponsors, but not the Olympic figure skating champion, although this status is more serious in terms of sports activities.

Figure skating is dying because athletes can’t make money. We must increase the prize money, but without sponsors it is impossible. The Russian stages of the Grand Prix are sponsored – it’s no secret how much you can win there. For this reason, more athletes will come to figure skating, despite the fact that we have been suspended for a long time. And here in Europe? You look at: “Shit, ice cream costs 200 euros an hour. And how much funding do I need to run the programs? If you take a good level, from 50 to 80 thousand dollars a year. So how much to pay for coaches, for accommodation? And how much can I earn? Are there any sponsors? And what are the competitions? – says Rigini “Championship”.

Righini is double champion of Russia in juniors, quadruple champion of Italy.
