“I don’t know what’s going on in their head” – Zavyalova on the FIS decision to equalize ski distances for men and women

Double world champion Olga Zavyalova responded to the decision of the International Ski Federation (FIS) Board of Directors to approve equal distances in cross-country skiing for men and women.

The meeting of the FIS Council took place within the framework of the congress of the organization which was held in Milan on 25 and 26 May.

– When I started to perform, we ran 30 km several times a season. However, there were “fives” and “tens”. Long distances in themselves are not scary. Even 50 km, God bless him, you can also run once. Because skiers usually practice this at the end of the season, they run marathons. But when there is an equalization between a man and a woman, I think it’s completely wrong. The guys completely reduced the distance, and the girls – on the contrary. I just don’t see the point of it. I don’t know what’s going on in their head.

I do not like this “equalization”. You even look at the calendar, and there are only 10 and 20 km races plus a sprint. Better when different distances: 5, 10, 15, 30 km. And so – no variety. Not interested, – RT quotes Zavyalova.
