“Populist solution”. Kryanin on equalizing ski distances for men and women

Vice-President of the Russian Ski Federation (FLGR) Sergey Kryanin spoke about the decision of the Council of the International Ski Federation (FIS) to approve equal distances in cross-country skiing for women and men.

“To be honest, I don’t understand what this leveling is for. The system that existed before was working. Men are even stronger. They have to overcome other distances. And here is a populist solution. Whether our sport needs it or not is a big question.

The method of bringing to a certain condition will remain the same. In any case, it is necessary to make volumes so that the skiers can cover the distance. It doesn’t matter if it’s 10 or 15 kilometers, RT quotes Kryanin.

In accordance with the new statutes of the FIS, the congress of the organization will henceforth be held every year and no longer every two years. The 54th FIS Congress will be held online next spring. The right to lead the 55th Congress in 2024 is granted to Reykjavik (Iceland).
