2006 Olympic champion in speed skating Svetlana Zhurova believes that the condition of Roman Kostomarov, who had previously been in intensive care, is associated with the loss of the body’s ability to cope with stress in the cold.
At the moment, Kostomarov’s state of health remains stable and serious. He is on ECMO and connected to a ventilator.
– If we used to skate on open rinks – I think Roman also started training on open ice – then we moved to indoor areas, as we call “greenhouse conditions”. Our bodies relaxed a bit and began to endure the frost worse. In deep childhood, we skated in St. Petersburg and at -36 years old, but no one got sick. It’s a matter of training.
Since all shows, all ice events have now gone under the roof in the vast majority, when returning to the open space, there is a big load on the body.
When visiting mass skating, you need to give yourself breaks, go for tea, warm up. But if the air temperature is very low, then, of course, it is better to refrain from riding. Going out on the ice at -20 or higher will not bring any benefit to the body, Zhurova told Gazeta.Ru.
