Gumennik told how he got into figure skating

Silver medalist of the Russian Championship Pierre Gumennik admitted to Sport24 that he immediately liked figure skating.

Do you remember how you got into figure skating?

– I remember. I was 4 years old. They wanted to send me to play sports. They took me to battle, I didn’t like it there. I cried, it was scary. The carriage picked me up in full force and took me away. In general, I did not want to go into battle.

I remember taking me swimming. You had to swim from wall to wall. And so many times. Instead I hit bottom with my feet and just walked around the pool, I couldn’t swim in it.

And when I was given figure skating, I immediately realized that it was mine. I loved it from day one. I didn’t like getting up early, but if I knew I was waiting for a practice session at the rink, I woke up with joy. Even at the age of five, I said my dream was to go on the ice and skate for an hour.

– What exactly hooked these formations? The fact that you drive fast on ice?

— It is unlikely that I drove fast (laughs). During the first training sessions, I was content to walk. So for me, it’s also a mystery why I loved figure skating so much.

In the 2022/23 season, Gumennik won the fourth stage of the Russian Grand Prix in Moscow, and also became third in the second stage in Sochi and second in the Russian Championship in Krasnoyarsk.
