RUSADA informs WADA of its decision in the Valieva case, the figure skater is not guilty of an anti-doping rule violation

The Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA) has informed the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) that it has made a decision in the case of the Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva according to a statement from the AMA.

– RUSADA concluded that although the Athlete committed an anti-doping rule violation, there was “no fault or negligence” in this matter. Thus, the court did not impose any sanction, except for the disqualification of its results on the date of the sample (December 25, 2021), the report indicates.

Valieva at the Beijing Olympics as part of the Russian team won gold in team competitions. Before the personal tournament, it became known that the illegal drug trimetazidine was discovered during the figure skater’s doping test. The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) cleared Valieva to participate in individual competitions, where she finished fourth. The allocation of national teams following the results of the team tournament has not yet taken place.

CAS later reported that WADA had requested a four-year ban from Valieva for an anti-doping rule violation and the voiding of her results in competitions since December 25, 2021, including the 2022 European Championships and the 2022 Beijing Olympics. WADA appealed to CAS because RUSADA failed to make a decision in the case of a 16-year-old figure skater in a timely manner.
