Lawyer Anna Antseliovich explained why the Anti-Doping Disciplinary Committee (DAK) of the Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA) made a decision regarding the Russian figure skater Camila Valieva after the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) referred the case to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
DAK RUSADA ruled that although the skater committed an anti-doping rule violation, there was “no fault or negligence on her part”. Valieva avoided sanctions, except for the cancellation of the results on the date of the sample (December 25, 2021). In November 2022, WADA filed a request with CAS due to the failure of RUSADA to make a decision in the case of a 16-year-old athlete in a timely manner.
– The decision of the DAK is the first instance decision. WADA will review the legality of such a decision and, therefore, the possibility and necessity of an appeal. Without a first instance decision, this case would not have moved, – Antseliovich quotes Metaratings.ru.
During the Beijing Olympics, it was announced that the banned drug, trimetazidine, was found in Valieva’s body.
