European Championship medalist Klimova prepares to return to racing in April after back injury

European Track Cycling Championship Medalist Diana Klimova said she was preparing to return to competitive practice in April.

Klimova suffered a back injury in a traffic accident and had to undergo surgery. In January, for the first time in a long time, she joined her Marathon-Tula trek team for a training camp.

– I just started training – I came to the first training camp with the team. On Jan 6, I had a back scan, the neurosurgeon said I could exercise and allowed me to exercise. Before that, there was only rehabilitation,” Klimova told .

Is there a fear of resuming training?

– There was fear, but only before getting on the bike. I understand that for now I need to do more exercises to strengthen my back and my whole body. Then there will be more confidence.

– How will you start the season – on the highway or on the track?

– Probably from the freeway. I am thinking of the April races in Maykop, in May – at the Grand Prix on the track, then at the championships of Russia on the highway and on the track. In six months, I think I should gain in condition. I have good muscle memory and endurance, but speed skills for the track need to be worked on.
