Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva removed the title of champion of Russia-2021 from the profile description on her social media page.
Earlier, in the profile description of the 16-year-old athlete, it was stated that in addition to two silver medals in the Czech Republic, she was the owner of gold, but now this medal is not there .
The Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA) has canceled Valieva’s result at the 2021 Russian Championship, according to a statement from the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).
WADA announced on Friday that it had received RUSADA’s decision on Valieva’s case. The Russian Anti-Doping Agency concluded that although the athlete committed an anti-doping rule violation, there was “no fault or negligence on his part”. The skater escaped penalties other than the cancellation of her results as of the sample date (December 25, 2021). It follows that the athlete will lose the gold medal of the 2021 Russian Championship. Then at the St. Petersburg tournament, she scored a total of 283.48 points for two programs. Second place went to Alexandra Trusova (248.65). The first three winners were closed by Anna Shcherbakova (239.56).
So, after RUSADA’s decision, 18-year-old Trusova will become Russian champion for the first time in her career. The silver will go to Shcherbakova and Daria Usacheva will get the bronze.
Valieva at the Beijing Olympics as part of the Russian team won gold in team competitions. Before the personal tournament, it became known that the illegal drug trimetazidine was discovered during the figure skater’s doping test. The CAS allowed Valieva to compete in the individual competition, where she finished fourth. The figure skater, who was 15 at the time of her positive doping test, is a protected person under WADA rules. In February, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) ruled that medals for the team tournament would not be awarded until Valieva’s case was closed. The American team took second place in the competition, the Japanese won bronze.
WADA demanded a four-year ban from Valieva for an anti-doping rule violation and the voiding of her results shown in competitions on December 25, 2021, including the 2022 European Championships and the 2022 Olympic Games in Beijing.
