Kostornaya can really be competitive in pair skating, says Rudkovskaya

Producer, co-owner of the Angela Plushenko Academy, Yana Rudkovskaya, considers figure skater Alena Kostornaya’s decision to switch from singles to pair skating reasonable.

Kostornaya will perform in duet with Georgy Kunitsa.

– I already spoke with Alena about this. She’s been on our shows before, doing blowouts and pirouettes. I knew she had such an idea – she told me about it. I think it will be an interesting alliance, she has a good partner, she is very happy with what she is doing. Of course, now the competition is tough in individual skating and it’s very difficult to be among the best, so I think his decision is reasonable.

Knowing Alena’s stability, she can really be competitive in pairs. However, it is just as long and difficult. I know she’s a very talented girl and I don’t want that talent to be lost. It’s good that she doesn’t finish her work in the sport. I would like to see her on the podium, because it’s great when you’re European champion, Grand Prix final champion, and then you go in pairs, and there too you get something. This will be a unique case.

I think all figure skating fans around the world will follow what is going to happen. In my opinion, Alena has a great chance. I don’t know yet who will train her, but now three couples are preparing in our academy, they are showing good results. For six months, they have already become the winners of the Grand Prix stages. They are Andrei Rud paired with Eva Khmelkova, Ilya Mironov paired with Taisiya Sobinina and Antonyshev paired with Anastasia Chernysheva. I wish Alena only good luck, medals and, of course, a lot of productive work,” Rudkovskaya told Sport24.

Kostornaya, 19, is European champion and winner of the Grand Prix final in women’s singles.
