Governor of Kaluga region pays court costs for gymnast Kulyak, who was disqualified for a year

Governor of Kaluga region Vladislav Shapsha met with 20-year-old gymnast Ivan Kulyak and from his personal funds paid his legal costs, informed press service of the government of the Kaluga region.

On May 17, 2022, the Russian received a one-year disqualification on the international scene for the letter Z stuck on his uniform during the World Cup in Doha.

The cost is two thousand Swiss francs. The athlete must reimburse this amount at the discretion of the Disciplinary Commission of the International Gymnastics Federation. The governor promised to pay the fees in May 2022.

– Let’s put an end to a problem: you have been given a fine, you must pay it and leave. The promise I made, I keep it. I wish you a sporting and personal success. We will support you and be proud of you,” Shapsha said.

The payment bill came in December 2022. Kulyak could be allowed to compete after May 16.
