Eight times Olympic sprint champion Usain Bolt lost more than $12 million as a result of fraudulent activity, according to Forbes, citing the athlete’s attorneys.
As reported, 12.7 million was missing from Bolt’s account at the Jamaican private investment firm. Lawyers say that if the money was stolen, it could be the result of “serious fraud, theft or of a combination of the two”.
The Jamaica Financial Services Commission is investigating a private equity firm and Treasury Secretary Nigel Clark called the situation worrying. Bolt’s attorney, Linton Gordon, said he would go to court.
The 36-year-old retired from athletics after the 2017 World Championships in London and is still the fastest man in history.
