Phone scammers stole 780,000 rubles from Olympic medalist figure skater Tarasova – media

Silver medal at the Beijing Olympics in figure skating Evgenia Tarasova paired with Vladimir Morozov was the victim of phone scams, reports RIA Novosti Sport.

Crooks under the guise of an investigator and an employee of the Central Bank stole 780,000 rubles from the athlete. The scammer contacted the skater on January 13. He managed to convince the 28-year-old athlete that she had several loans.

“Then the attacker transferred the call to an alleged employee of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation. In turn, he told Tarasova that she should withdraw all her money and then transfer it to another account. As a result, the girl transferred 780,000 rubles to an unknown account, the agency said citing the source.

The scammers made another attempt to deceive Morozova, but this time the girl was not caught. She contacted the police. A criminal case has been opened under Article 159 (fraud).

Tarasova and Morozov are multiple world championship winners, double European champions, silver medalists from the 2018 Games in the team tournament and the 2022 Olympics in pair skating.
