Figure skater Anastasia Zinina said that she wants to return to international tournaments, however, she believes that in terms of the composition of participants, the Russian championship this season was much more interesting than the Grand Prix final.
– Will large numbers of domestic starts be able to fully replace international starts?
– International competitions are completely different. When I was at the Grand Prix last year, I met a lot of foreigners. I speak English well, so it was very interesting for me to communicate with athletes from other countries, it’s a great experience. We also went to these stadiums without parents. You come to another country on your own, to another culture – it’s very interesting. I dreamed of going to Japan. It seems to me that it is a separate universe.
But the federation and Alexander Ilyich [Коган] they try to offer competitions, award big cash prizes. I’m sure our Russian championship was much more interesting than the final of the international Grand Prix series. I know that even foreigners looked at our Czech Republic.
– But do you want to return to international competitions?
– Very well. It is really interesting and very necessary. New knowledge, new countries, new experience. Despite the fact that trips often take place in the format “hotel-ice rink”, “ice rink-hotel”. But international tournaments are necessary. It’s sad without them. I hope this issue will be resolved as soon as possible,” Zinina told Metaratings.ru.
In March 2022, the International Skating Union (ISU) suspended Russian athletes from participating in international competitions.
