The Ukrainian Volleyball Federation has not allowed compatriot Timofey Poluyan to play for Turkey’s Hekimoglu due to the presence of Russian Alexei Nalobin in the team, the club’s press service reports.
Poluyan, who is an outside player for the Ukrainian national team, moved to Hekimoglu on January 14, but left the Bursa club on the night of January 16.
– According to the information given to us by the manager of Poluyan, a call came from the Ukrainian Volleyball Federation. The athlete was asked to leave the team due to the fact that we have a Russian player (Aleksey Nalobin). It has been reported that they will never allow their players to play in a team with the Russians, and if he does not leave he will no longer be allowed to be part of the national team and his license will be revoked, a Hekimoglu said in a statement.
The Turkish club also spoke about the Ukrainian federation’s proposal to drop Nalobin, suggesting “another player” instead.
“We have declared that we will not participate in such an event, which is completely against the spirit of sport, and demanded that the contract be respected. We do not agree that athletes are tools for these dirty games, the Turkish club said in a statement.
