“Why not organize the Grand Prix final in Bashkiria, Chechnya, Dagestan, Mari El, Yakutia, Tuva, Khakassia?” – Tursynbayeva’s mother

Padishakhan Sultanalieva, mother of former figure skater Elizabeth Tursynbayeva in an interview with a correspondent, she said that regions in Russia lack major figure skating tournaments.

On Sunday, Russian national team head coach Elena Chaikovskaya confirmed to that the Russian Grand Prix final has been moved from Sochi to Saint Petersburg. Competitions for adults will take place from March 3 to 5, for juniors from March 1 to 3.

– I am for the development of figure skating in the regions. In Moscow and St. Petersburg, and so everything is very rich. Why not organize a tournament in Bashkiria, Chechnya, Dagestan, Mari El, Yakutia, Tuva, Khakassia, the Far East? They are deprived of a wonderful sport.

I support small nationalities – I believe they should also be fully developed for the sake of Russia’s future. They are largely destitute,” Sultanalieva told .

Kazakh figure skater Tursynbayeva announced her retirement in September 2021. She is a silver medalist at the 2019 World Championships and also a bronze medalist at the Youth Olympic Games in 2016.
