For the first time in her career, a Ukrainian reached the semi-finals of the doubles at the Grand Slam tournament
Ukrainian tennis player Marta Kostyuk commented on her reaching the semi-finals of the doubles at the Australian Open-2023.
“You know, single players don’t take a couple seriously and I’m one of those people. I don’t know… It’s all a little unrealistic, but to do it in Australia, in a special place for me, is a great feeling, and we are already preparing for our semi-finals.”
“What does it mean for us that we are the only worn pair in the net? Well, let’s try to be in the seed next time.”
In the quarter-finals, Kostyuk, paired with Romanian Elena-Gabriela Ruse, defeated fourth-seeded Storm Hunter/Elise Mertens (Australia/Belgium) in three sets.
Kostyuk and Rousse held the second joint quarter-final at the Grand Slam tournaments and reached the 1/2 finals for the first time. Last year, tennis players lost in the quarterfinals of Roland Garros.
In the semi-finals, the Ukrainian and Romanian will meet with the seed leaders Barbora Kreychikova and Katerina Sinyakova from the Czech Republic.
