Leaders OI-2024 refused to the President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky in a ban on participation in competitions for athletes from the Russian Federation.
Zelensky, during a conversation with French President Emmanuel Macron, separately emphasized that “athletes from Russia have no place at the Olympic Games in Paris.”
However, Olympic officials rejected Zelenskiy’s call, saying “governments should not decide which athletes can and cannot compete in which competitions.” At the same time, the admission of Russians can take place only under a neutral flag.
Recall that the Olympic Summit, chaired by IOC President Thomas Bach, unanimously agreed to accept the initiative proposed by the Olympic Council of Asia, allowing athletes from Russia and Belarus to take part in its competitions.
The 2024 Olympic Games will be held in Paris from July 26 to August 11. The mascots of the Summer Games were the Phrygian caps, which were named Phrygi.
