At the same time, the OKA is “in solidarity with Ukraine”
Asian Olympic Committee (OKA) officially invited athletes from Russia and Belarus take part in competitions in Asia, including Asian Games 2023 in Hangzhou, China.
“The Asian Olympic Committee joins the Olympic Movement in supporting the statement of the IOC Executive Board on solidarity with Ukraine, sanctions against Russia and Belarus and the status of athletes from these countries.”
“OKA believes in the unifying power of sport and that all athletes, regardless of their nationality or passport, should be able to compete in sport. The OKA proposes to provide eligible Russian and Belarusian athletes with the opportunity to compete in Asia, including the Asian Games.”
“The Asian Olympic Committee remains on standby as the IOC continues to explore ways to bring Russian and Belarusian athletes back into competition under strict conditions.”
Recall that the IOC is ready to consider the possibility of admitting athletes from Russia and Belarus to international competitions. In this case, everyone who wishes will be required to act in a neutral status. Also, athletes should not support the war of the Russian Federation against Ukraine.
Earlier, the Olympic Summit, chaired by IOC President Thomas Bach, unanimously agreed to accept the initiative proposed by the Olympic Council of Asia, allowing athletes from Russia and Belarus to take part in its competitions.
